These were all completed with a wide variety of tools, but the majority of the shaping was done with a chainsaw. In addition to that I like to use chisels and rotary tools for a lot of the detailing. Each provides a different look, and allows me to do different things with the wood to really bring them to life. For any kind of coloring, I use either acrylic paint or a colored fabric dye. Here recently I’ve begun using a wood burner as well as a torch to bring out more contrast in the details.
Some of these are still available for purchase, but if not I’m always down to take the concept and complete another custom piece.
All hand made using a variety of chisels, knives, and rotary tools. Finding the face and spirit in a piece of wood was what first got me into wood carving. Although I don’t tackle them a whole lot anymore, I’m always willing to recreate one of these concepts or come up with an entirely new and unique spirit for you. My style is ever evolving, so an exact replica will be hard to come by however.
I typically only do these by custom request, but I still enjoy them. Cutting the geometric lines and shapes is a very satisfying thing to take on. All hand carved using chisels and knives. Colored with a variety of fabric dyes and acrylic paints sealed with varnish. I can also do these on a much bigger scale now since I’ve started using a chainsaw, so if you’ve got an idea for something a bit larger I’d love to create it for you.
Although almost all of my more recent carvings are wildlife themed as well, these in particular were all done prior to adopting the chainsaw into my arsenal of tools. The ones you see on this page were all made with either chisels and knives, or a rotary tool, and in most cases a combination of both. All colored with acrylics and fabric dye followed by a final coat of varnish.
I like animals more than people, so using my talents to bring them to life in wood is my favorite thing to do without a doubt. All of the ones you see here were custom requests and already have homes, but the concepts can be recreated and adjusted to whatever you may have in mind. I can carve absolutely any animal you’d want, so there really are no limits to what I can make for you.
These all speak for themselves I believe, simple and straight forward. Although getting the really clean and smooth finish requires a bit of patience to achieve. They can be made as small or large as you want, and in basically any shape or color. The cool thing here I like is the variety of woods that can be used since size isn’t as big of a deal. If its wood, I can find it and turn it into a bowl or dish for you.
Exactly what the title says, the weird or random concepts in my head or in the head of whomever requested it. I haven’t received any commissions for this kind of stuff since adopting the chainsaw, so there are now even fewer limits to what I can create for you.
